AWARDED the Best Short Documentary at the Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival (2023, Paris), The Monkey Island tells a story of love and protection for rescued monkeys who have won their own island in the Panamanian Caribbean. After leaving Canada and spending years on a sailboat, Francine found her own paradise in the beautiful archipelago of Bocas del Toro.
Orphaned or improperly raised as pets, primates of the species Howler, Capuchin and Geoffrey came to the care of the Canadian, who built a true refuge for these animals in the middle of the Caribbean Sea.
Her relationship with the local indigenous community, the bonds created with the first rescued animal and the stories of mistreatment that many had before arriving on The Monkey Island are part of our first environmental documentary.
